ANGULAR RANGE COMPENSATION: In ballistics, the aiming distance and the actual distance between a shooter and his target vary according to the angle of fire. A projectile fired upwards or downwards will travel a shorter distance from the ground (and therefore subject to the Earth's gravitational pull) than a projectile fired horizontally. The projectile will be subject to the earth's attraction over a shorter distance, and its point of impact will therefore be higher.
